Apple did not have much success with their Vision Pro headset, mainly due to the high price tag and it not having much of a real-world use case. However, they are still working on Vision headsets and the new Vision headset costing about $2,000 might release as early as next year.
Meta Platforms, Inc. has seen more success with its Ray-Ban smart glasses, as they are much cheaper than the Vision Pro ($299 vs. $3,500) and lightweight, making them more comfortable to wear. Additionally, they are affordable for a wider audience, which has contributed to their popularity.
To address the situation, Apple is reportedly working on a cheaper (though not-so-cheap) and lighter version of the Vision headset.
For this, the company is supposedly using more affordable materials and a less powerful processor. The new model is also likely to miss out on the EyeSight feature, which displays the user’s eyes on the outside of the headset.
In addition, Apple is working on the second-generation Vision Pro, which could be released in 2026. It is expected to feature a faster processor than the first generation, though it remains to be seen how Apple will address the weight of the Pro edition, as the current model has faced criticism for being too heavy.
