Better Discord and Vencord are quite popular add-ons for your Discord app on PC. They help us in modding the official Discord app and provide us with many features which are either Nitro-exclusive or not available to Discord users at all.
However, considering these are unofficial mods and provide us with premium features, could they harm your account?
It actually depends on how you use it. You will see people who have been using these mods since a long time and were not banned, but then you will see that one random user on Reddit claiming that their account was banned for using BetterDiscord or Vencord.
So, why is that? That’s what we’ll be covering here.
BetterDiscord & Vencord: Safe or Not?
If you use them well, you will be safe and won’t be banned. However, do remember that Discord does not allow modification to their application, which you are doing by using these mods.
Here’s what their terms and conditions states:
You may not copy, modify, create derivative works based upon, distribute, sell, lease, or sublicense any of our software or services. You also may not reverse engineer or decompile our software or services, attempt to do so, or assist anyone in doing so, unless you have our written consent or applicable law permits it.
As you can read, they have explicitly mentioned that modifications should not be done to their app.
So, while Discord may not ban you for just using these mods, they might ban you if they are able to detect that you are not using any official client. And that’s where you have to be careful.
How to Keep Your Account Safe with BetterDiscord & Vencord?
If you are a bit careful, your account should be safe from being banned due to these apps (can’t speak for any other reason, considering Discord’s ban history).
So, here are a few things you can do to avoid ban:
#1 – FakeNitro Plugin:
This plugin is well known, works great and even comes pre-installed with Vencord. It allows everyone to enjoy plenty of Discord Nitro features without spending any money.
One of the features is streaming at Nitro quality, which means you can stream at more than 720p at 30 FPS. And that’s what you should avoid.
Yes, you will see many people are still not banned even though they are regular users. However, this feature is clearly using Discord’s server to stream at higher quality. So, they can easily detect that you are not using official Discord app. That means, there is really high chances that you will get banned for this.
There have been people who have reported being banned after using FakeNitro plugin for streaming. So, you should be aware that you can get banned after streaming at Nitro-quality.
Also, do remember that streaming at 60 FPS and more than 720p is one of the reasons why many prefer to buy Discord Nitro. So, Discord surely cares about this feature.
#2 – Unknown plugins:
These mods’ developers have done a great job at keeping a safe list of plugins in their mod or website. And it is best to use plugins you find there, not some random website or even Github page.
Every now and then, you will find some plugin which might be having interesting features, but it is not a great idea to trust random people on the internet.
For example, there was a plugin which people could use to crash others stream by joining the voice chat. However, it was basically streaming at extremely high resolution and frame rate which was crashing the stream. So, it could cause Discord team to ban you.
However, the worst part of that stream was – stealing users’ credentials (passwords). So, even if Discord team ignored you for crashing others stream like that, you will still lose your accounts (not just Discord but others as well).
So, avoid using plugins which are not well-known and not published by the developers of BetterDiscord and Vencord.
Conclusion:
That’s pretty much all you need to be careful of. If you really enjoy streaming at 60 FPS or more than 720p then you might prefer using a secondary account to do so. Not so convenient, but much better than losing your main account.
