Graphics driver updates often bring support for new games or bug fixes, so it is quite common for gamers to try to update to recent version of their GPU’s drivers as soon as they are available.
However, if you are having AMD GPU and facing the AMD Adrenaline Edition Warning saying, “This version of AMD Software that you have launched is not compatible with your currently installed AMD graphics driver”, then there are few things you can do fix it.
This error can be usually seen when:
- You are not using (directly) AMD GPU or compatible iGPU.
- Your graphics drivers are corrupted.
- Windows Update has replaced the drivers with unsupported drivers.
Options To Fix AMD Software Not Compatible:
Option #1 – Download Driver for your GPU:
First visit the Drivers and Support page for Drivers. Search for your GPU and click on the search button.
Now download the latest driver version from there. If you had tried downloading once before, it would be better to download it again, so we can be sure that your previously downloaded drivers were not corrupted.
Option #2 – Connect Monitor Directly To GPU:
This is a common mistake done by people, especially those who started without GPU and been using their computer with an iGPU. So, their HDMI/DisplayPort is connected to the motherboard, instead of being connected to the GPU directly.
You need to connect your display cable to the GPU, not the motherboard. Also, please do not connect display cable of same monitor to both the GPU and the motherboard. The display cable needs to be connected to the GPU and that’s all.
Once you are sure that you have connected your monitor’s display cable to your AMD GPU, try to install the drivers again.
Option #3 – Do A Clean Install:
If the above option was not applicable for you, then try doing a clean installation of drivers.
Step #1 – Download DDU Tools or AMD Clean Up Utility.
Step #2 – Disconnect your Ethernet cable and/or disable Wi-Fi.
Step #3 – Restart the computer in Safe Mode by pressing Shift while you press Restart option in Start menu.
Step #4 – Run DDU Tools or AMD Clean Up Utility while being in Safe Mode.
Step #5 – Restart the computer.
Step #6 – Try installing the drivers again.
The drivers should install without issues now. Once you are done, connect your Ethernet or enable your Wi-Fi again.
Option #4 – Install Previous Drivers:
Visit AMD’s website for drivers and then search for your GPU. On the download page, you will see an option called “Previous Drivers”.
Now, download previous drivers and try installing them. If they are installed without issues, try to install the latest drivers again.
Option #5 – Update Chipset Drivers:
Make sure that your chipset drivers are up-to-date. You may end up with this error even if you are using outdated chipset drivers.
You can download latest chipset drivers by visiting the same Drivers and Support page and type your processor name to download the drivers.
Do note that if you are having a laptop, it would not be a great idea to download chipset drivers from AMD’s website.
Once you have installed the latest chipset drivers, restart your computer and try to install GPU drivers again.
Option #6 – Run Auto-Detect Installer:
AMD’s Auto-Detect Installer will install the latest drivers automatically for your GPU. So, if you are not sure on what GPU you are having or constantly having issues, then this option should help you.
You can download this by visiting Drivers and Support page, and then click on Download Windows Drivers button for Windows PC.
Conclusion:
Hope these options were helpful for you in fixing the compatibility issue of AMD Software while trying to update the drivers. If these methods are not helpful to you then it would be better idea to ask about this to AMD Community while mentioning everything you tried as well as mailing AMD support regarding this.
