Valorant is one of the most popular tactical multiplayer shooter games these days. It being easy on hardware and its anti-cheat being capable of having really low number of cheaters are the main reasons why people love it. However, to maintain the protection against cheaters, their measures often cause issues to players’ experience, at least to a few of them. And one of the most common errors faced by players is “This build of Vanguard requires TPM version 2.0 and secure boot enabled in order to play”.
This error is displayed if you’re running Windows 11, and you don’t have TPM 2.0 and/or secure boot enabled. Since a while ago, Riot Games decided to make it compulsory for Windows 11 users to have both of these features enabled. They are also required if you want to install Windows 11, officially.
How to fix TPM and Secure Boot error in Valorant?
Check if TPM and Secure Boot are enabled:
Before we begin, first let’s check whether they are enabled or not. It could actually be something else if it is already enabled.
So, check whether Secure Boot is enabled or not by opening Start menu, type “sysinfo” and click on “System Information”. On the right side, you can see “Secure Boot State” which will show Enabled or Disabled depending on its status.
And to check whether TPM is supported or not, press Start button and type “tpm.msc” and press enter.
If it is not enabled, then you will see a dialog box saying “Compatible TPM cannot be found” and if it is supported then it will show you a screen where you can see “TPM is ready for use”.
OPTION 1-
If any of them is not enabled, then you will need to enable whatever is not enabled by using your BIOS settings. It varies depending on the brand of your PC’s motherboard or your laptop. So, you will need to search how to enable it yourself.
If they are showing enabled and you’re still unable to play the game, then follow option 2.
OPTION 2-
There can be a situation where you cannot play the game even when both options are enabled and you’re still seeing the same error which asks you to enable TPM and Secure Boot
It can happen when there was some problem while the game was being installed. It can be fixed by following steps-
Open Riot Client.
Click on your profile, which is on the top right corner.
Click on Settings and then select VALORANT.
Now, just click on the option called REPAIR and wait for it to be completed.
Once it is done, try to run the game again and see if it is fixed.
OPTION 3-
The last option for you is to install Windows 10. It is not required by default to have both (i.e., TPM and Secure Boot) options enabled in it. So, you won’t be facing issues like this on Windows 10. However, in the future, you may need to enable them even in Windows 10. So, this is not a reliable solution.
As much as we are annoyed by things like these, we should remember that Valorant developers are doing all these to improve their anti-cheat, so we don’t have to face cheaters and even when we do, they are detected as quickly as possible. Hopefully, Riot Games will take note of situations like these and improve their game as well as Vanguard.
